Environmental Chute Wash System
To our customers and community:
First and foremost, thank you for your continued support. At Metro Mix, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve in all aspects of our business, which includes environmental stewardship. We are pleased to inform you that our investment in the revolutionary chute wash systems, installed on all our mixer trucks, has made an impact.
If you are not aware, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), has developed guidelines restricting the water used in chute washing activities from permeating on the ground or finding its way into storm sewers. Many state and local communities have adopted these guidelines, or are developing their own similar or even more stringent regulations. These municipalities have begun issuing heavy fines for violations.
Metro Mix likes to stay on the cutting edge of concrete delivery technology. Over two years ago, after extensive review, we were able to identify a chute wash system that conveniently captures the wash water from the chutes on our trucks. The chute wash water can then be properly disposed of in our permitted treatment facilities at each of our plants. This service mitigates your need and the cost of providing a qualified chute wash areas at each project site.
Metro Mix continues our commitment to environmental stewardship and continues to invest in proper environmental equipment. In addition to the Chute Wash System, many of these investments and costs are at our facilities which may not be apparent at the job site. Some of these costs you might experience in your own business or home such as used oil disposal fees, tire disposal fees, emissions fees, etc… More specific to our business are concrete disposal costs, and wash pit fees and maintenance, managing water and air resources, and maintaining all associated permits and equipment.
For the use of the chute wash system a nominal fee of $20.00 will be charged per use. This fee covers the cost of using the system on your job site, dumping the waste when the truck gets back to the plant, and general maintenance of the system. For best results, notify our dispatcher of your need for the system. If the chute wash system is not used you will not be charged. The system is for wash down only and does not dispose of concrete left in the chutes or overages on the ground. The chutes must be scraped clean by the contractor prior to use.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this exciting new system which will eliminate your need for a chute wash area, and reduce your risk of associated fines for not having one. If you have any questions, please contact your helpful Metro Mix representative.
